Description
The ghostly remains of the school doorway arch. Metropolis, Nevada was created in 1910 as a planned city by Harry L. Pierce and the Pacific Reclamation Company. With a post office, school, train depot, and modern hotel, the population grew to nearly 700.
With low rainfall and failure to obtain water rights bankruptcy was declared. By 1924, only 200 people remained. Now the ruins of the hotel and school are all that remain.
