Carl Sandburg plays guitar at a dinner in Chicago October 31, 1957. He was honored by Chicago and presented a plaque with the words he had written about the dynamics of Chicago. Image from original 4x5 inch B&W camera negative.
"I am an idealist. I don't know where I'm going but I'm on my way." Carl Sandburg.
My passion for photography thrives in the creative process and the opportunity to share an observation. I am also dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historic film and glass negatives. The "vintage" images on my site are 50 to 100 years and older. All the "vintage" images displayed here are first generation, meticulously restored from the "original" camera negative. Now that almost all photography is digital, keeping an archive of original camera negatives is a way to preserve the physical connection to our past which exists in the photographic negative. I love traveling across the United States and this enables me to pursue my passion for creating fine art photography. Visit my web site at www.mkphoto.net

PS: did you know he was, in his youth, called "The Terrible Swede" because of his athletic prowess. I think I remember this correctly that he was trying out for a major league baseball team when he cut his heal on a sharp metal object that stymied his career.
Martin Konopacki Restoration replied:
Thanks Joe, interesting facts. Yes he certainly had a full and fascinating life!

I read his 6 volume bio on Lincoln--twice--as he suggests three times--once as an adolescent, as an adult and as a senior. I was, like him born in Galesburg.
John Houseman
Nice, subtle colorization.
Martin Konopacki Restoration replied:
I appreciate that John!
Henk Meijer Photography
